Security Industy Surveillance Camera

Today’s surveillance system manufacturers rely heavily on custom acrylic, thermoplastic and polymer fabricators to provide camera housings for their mobile surveillance systems. In turn, to fabricate the camera housings, the fabricators employ a combination of raw materials and pigments and various casting, material extrusion, compression/injection molding, vacuum forming, and assembly techniques.

How Does Precision Plastic Machining Work?

Something interesting about plastic machining is the fact that it is often controlled, to a large part, by computer software. This is a process that is known as computer numerical control (CNC) machining. It is used to operate many of the tools that are used in precision plastic machining, such as mills, lathes, grinders and routers.

What Are the Different Types of CNC Machines

There are several types of CNC machines. Some are used in manufacturing facilities to manufacture parts while others may be used in retail locations to create custom products on demand (such as dog and cat tags). Not only are CNC machines used in a retail setting they are also used in various types of industry including aerospace, dental, marine, medical and security. Without these industrial machines, we are not able to create devices and products for various industry.

A Brief History of CNC Machines

Numeric control machines have been in existence since the 1950s, getting their instructions from punched tape. The idea eventually caught on with manufacturers, but each wanted to create its own language. In the 1960s, a standard language, G-Code, was adopted and standardized for part programs. At the same time, computer aided design arrived on the scene, as did a few affordable mini-computers. As the economy slowed and labor costs rose in the 1970s, companies gravitated toward computer numeric control machining.

Pros and Cons of CNC Precision Machining

CNC precision machining is a specialized type of machining equipment that uses computer software to plot coordinates and cut items precisely according to the plotted coordinates. Because the cutting machinery is moved to the same exact coordinates in the exact order time after timer, each machined product is made precisely the same way.

Precision CNC Machining 101

One of the primary benefits of precision CNC machining is the fact that it produces an end product which is far superior to what would be available if the machine were operated by a human. The software that runs these machines can be updated to provide almost any end product necessary. At the same time, by fabricating a superior product, it also reduces the amount of human labor necessary to produce it.
